My bedroom piece just came out in the anniversary issue of ur dream home magazine so I've had bedrooms on the brain lately. Bedrooms, although the most private rooms in any house, are so important to the people who live in them and with them. It's a tough job keeping a balance between a calm clean space and the cluttered private quarters that visitors don't ever get to see. By adding a bed skirt (as above) you instantly create a hidden storage space where you can slide boxes for extra winter or summer storage. Plus you don't have to see it either minimizing that cluttered feel.

So, I just thought that for today I'd pull together some inspirations for your own bedroom. When you have a large space (if you are lucky) be sure to get the right balance throughout the room. Don't let parts of it feel too empty - make sure you choose a bed that suits the space. If the space allows, choose a large four poster bed or canopy bed - you want it to be prominent feature in the room. If space allows, add a seating area, bureaus, a stand alone or built in closet and be sure to have good reading lamps on either side of the bed.

By putting curtains around the bed you can create a wonderfully cosy space - especially good for our chilly damp Irish winters. Take a cue from the side table here - drape a small round table with a complementary fabric to create this easy side table (hidden storage underneath!).

While some people may choose just to wallpaper just one feature wall - the effect of doing all the walls has tremendous impact as well especially if it picks up other colours through out the space such as the gold bed here. This gives the space warm enveloping feel without being too claustrophobic.

Try to invest in good 100% cotton bedding - nothing feels better when you slip under the covers at the end of the day. Also, good sleeping pillows and enough that you can sit up comfortably and read.

Those beds are beautiful. I love four poster beds.I had no idea that curtains would look that good around bed.
