Yesterday I drove up to Dublin to attend a press event at the Roche Bobois showroom in Beacon South Quarter. It was so great to finally see it in person after featuring it and writing about their products a lot over the last few months. I'll have photos up early next week for you.
So, today I thought I'd post about Glin Castle, the private home of the Knight of Glin, Desmond Fitzgerald. Located in the countryside in County Limerick it has spectacular views overlooking the Shannon. This story was featured in the May/June 2007 issue of Image Interiors magazine, all photographs are by James Fennell.

It has been a labour of love bringing the castle back to its original glory. In 1803 most of the original furnishings were sold because his ancestor was bankrupt. As keeper of Glin Castle Desmond has spent years finding suitable pieces to re-furnish the house. Above and below are the formal sitting room.

One of the bedrooms, below, has family portraits on the walls and exquisite furnishings and art collected over the years.

Travelling around the Far East as a young man, the Knight feel in love with fine china and started collecting it. Some examples can be seen below.

The spacious bathroom also has walls filled with family photographs.

While I certainly love the formal part of the house, my favourite part of this story was seeing the private quarters which are actually in a former woodshed. They are vibrant and filled with wonderful combinations of colours that make them feel so warm and inviting. There are lovely examples of painted Georgian furniture. The warm terracotta tiles and sunny yellow walls create a cosy haven for the family. I just adore this blue cupboard.

And look at the colour on this one. Amazing!
