Been a mad week recovering from Relay for Life- which by the way, was fabulous. What an amazing experience! It was a 24 Hour Relay to raise money for Cancer. There were over 40 teams and it took place in Toomevara, Co. Tipperary. I'll put some images up soon.
Our daughter returned from America with my parents so we've been busy getting ready for school etc. Of course, I have loads more photos from my trip to Donegal so today to continue my "Love Irish Crafts" blog campaign I wanted to tell you about this amazing art gallery - An Clachan - located next to the An Chuirt hotel in Gweedore, Co. Donegal.
Unfortunately, I could not take photographs inside as the owners want to protect the rights of the artists- which I understand but therefore I cannot really give you a proper look at what a wonderful selection there is inside.
"Clachan means a cluster of rural dwellings in close proximity to each other in which exists a strong cooperative ethos of working in partnership together for a common purpose." An Clachan is run by husband and wife team, Sheila and Karl Hulme, and they achieved just that with a series of working studios and gallery space.
Karl did let me take photographs in his studio. He is a glass artist and paints these amazing intricate designs on to glass goblets, candlesticks and large vases among other things.
An Clachan features many other artists including Brigitta Varadi a textile artist, Heidi Nyguyen who does oils and prints, Sharan McDaid, Marina Hamilton, Fiona Higgins, Emer O'Sullivan, Maur McGlynn, Adam Frew, Orla Egan, Peter Fulup, Thomas Diem, Gail Kelly, Anne Marie McCoughey and Alastair Simmons. Wish I could share examples of their work but trust me there is a wonderful selection on display.
Stop into the An Chuirt Hotel for lunch or a tea and then browse through this amazing gallery space. An Clachan can be contacted on 07495-6009 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
