I've been having a bit of purge in my home office over the weekend - I'm off on holidays next week - my parents are arriving in from America and I'll also be spending a few days photographing new stories for my blog - which will be going through a sort of makeover come around September. More of that project to come in the next few months so stay tuned....in the meantime, when in Paris back in January, I picked up a few magazines - as one does - for fresh inspiration and ideas. Zeste magazine was a food magazine I found - now my French is not particularly good but my eyes can translate these ideas. I found the food styling somewhat cold- a little too clean and contemporary for my taste and yet the actual plates do inspire me.
Fruits de Mer - a simple platter of seafood. I love the little bowl of roasted carrots and the small bowl to the lower right is a raspberry vinaigrette. That little detail of the napkin is nice and the grey board and zig zag edge of the plate is very effective.
This dish looks delicious - I'm sure many of you can translate better than me but it is, I believe, goats cheese with prawns and salmon roe on top. I think I can manage to re-create this. Maybe I'll use the trout caviar from Goatsbridge instead?
I loved this story - the title of which is Je Recycle Mes Restes de Pain en Super Tartines - the idea is to "recycle" bread and use it for a myriad of different meals - this above uses Emmental cheese, pesto and I believe chicken.
The ever popular Croque-Monsieur - so perfect with a cup of soup on a blustery Irish day.
Tuna salad - a good healthy lunch.
And finally tomatoes, capers and ricotta. Again, I'd love this for a summery lunch.
To finish off your meal - this pavlova looked quite delicious. Love the simple rosy background and the chocolate sauce drizzled haphazardly finishes it off perfectly.
The other thing that I found listed in Zeste was a page on "Food Geeks" (meant in a good way of course) - they listed an American food blog - Joy The Baker - written by Joy Wilson. I love her styling - she uses less predictable backgrounds, a lovely mix of colours and her personality is infused throughout the blog - well worth checking it out. She lives in sunny Los Angeles - lucky girl.
Hope you are all well - there is not a cloud in the sky in Nenagh today as I am writing this. Heading off for my walk with my two beasts - Sugar and Frida. Did I tell you we got a black Labrador puppy back in October? - well she's a monster at 8 months, larger than Sugar our other Lab - not sure who is walking who but it gets me out! And they are pretty wonderful companions. Must take some photos of them for you.
Have a great weekend.
