I've been meaning to do another post all week - last Tuesday the 17th of April was the 3rd Anniversary of this blog and sadly I let it pass without noting it. However, to my delight I surpassed the 160,000 page views this week and my monthly page views shot up last month to over 12,000. I must be doing something right. On Thursday night I was out at the screening of The Artist hosted by the Nenagh Silent Film Festival - you can see photos from that up on the Nenaghgal Facebook page. What an incredible evening and many congratulations to them for a superb event. What was great for me was that I met quite a few people who are reading and loving my blog - even though they do not comment I know that for sure I am not blogging into the stratosphere! Thank you to all of you - and you know who you are - who read and enjoy it. Your support is greatly appreciated.
On Sunday, Nenagh was buzzing once again with the Visit Nenagh International Classic Bike Race. The weather held out most of the day thankfully. My daughter and I went on the Family Bike Ride which started off in Banba Square at 1pm. It was organized by Elaine Cullinan at North Tipperary Sports Partnership.
My sister in law, Bernie McGee, looking quite fashionable for the ride.
My daughter Sophia.
Sophia and Auntie Bernie.
The McGee Gang of riders - Trace McGee, Matthew McGee, Jayden McGee, Bernie McGee and Sophia McGee.
Down in Quintin's Way there were about 40 food stalls - some from Tipperary Food Producers including Lough Derg Chocolates, Seymour Organic, Mags Homemade Bakery, The Scullery and Tipperary Kitchen but loads of others including the local restaurants and businesses such as The Pantry, Peppermill, Pepe's, Ken's, Cinnamon Alley, The Wine Buff - I'm sure I've left out a few but not intentionally so my apologies ahead of time.. It was very busy down there and everyone seemed to be truly enjoying themselves.
This guy came riding by on his enormous bicycle!
And of course my nephew Jayden managed to ride it as well.
There were adorable babies - this one with her TD Daddy, Alan Kelly.
My neighbours sweet girls after their faces had been painted.
Mrs. Brown aka Martin Langton kept the crowds entertained while waiting for the racers to come through.
And here they come..........
My husband dressed as his alter-ego, Charlie Chaplin with our daughter Sophia.
A fabulous tandem bike - Lord knows how they rode it!
Charlie Chaplin and Mrs. Brown - what a pair!
This photo does not do this scene much justice but seeing them riding up and down the street together was some laugh.
A great stilt walker- tickled members of the crowd with his long feather.
Even dogs had been branded with the Visit Nenagh logo!
The winner comes down Pearse Street.
Fourth place to Visit Nenagh team! Bravo.
Awards handed out - with the Tipperary Rose for 2012 - also from Portroe - definitely something in the water out there!
Bravo to Mayor Virginia O'Dowd, Rene Van Dam, Michael Molamphy, Mary Devine and all the other organizers for a fantastic day. Next year will be even bigger and better!
I spoke to Virginia a few days after this post and she sent me on an email with some comments from participants - it was all very well received. Here's what she sent along...

And a few pieces from cycling forums:
"Did the A4 race yesterday (my first race ever). It was a great race and a great day out. Well done to all involved and I really hope you got what you wanted from it. Looking forward to next years race already"
Yea, well done. It was a very ambitious venture - especially to close off the town centre and bring the races in through roundabouts etc. I shows what can be done - a real proffessional approach - and i hope it develops.

"I liked the fact that there was music and a crowd of people at the top of the first big climb (A4 race). That actually encouraged me get over the top of the climb."
"It was great turning into the finish and seeing the crowds. Back again next year".
"I heard great reports on this event and the photos and news reports (before and after) were brilliant
Well done to the organisers".
"I raced in the A4, my first race too, managed to stay in the main bunch thanks to getting a few gaps on the climb up Portroe. From then on it was a matter of survival for me, and thankfully hung on in there. Must say I really enjoyed it and i'm now looking to see where can i race next The organisation was top notch and actually finishing to a crowd was fantastic. I thought the marshaling was excellent. I can't wait for next year again. Well done to all the Visit Nenagh Team!.
